SBS 2008 & SBS 2011 - SBS Monitoring and reports not working - How to recreate the SBS Monitoring Database

Over the last few months we have noticed a couple of our customers SBS servers are having the following issues with SBS Monitoring and reports.

  • Reports not being generated and emailed
  • Manually generating reports causes the SBS Console to stop working with a "close console and restart" window.

Initially we just rebooted the servers and everything seemed fine but after a week or so the problem would happen again. Looking around the various SBS forums we could see that this was a widely reported issue but nothing really explained how to resolve it. The next obvious solution therefore was to either work out how to reinstall or recreate the SBS Monitoring database.

In the end we came across the following blog which explains how to recreate the SBS monitoring database.

This sure enough fixed the errors with the reports being manually generated but for some reason the scheduled reports (Summary Network Report and the Detailed Network Report) were still not running. We found by editing the reports and changing the scheduled time they were set to run fixed this.
